My son Drew was born in 1996.

His seizure therapy includes Depakote, Felbatol, and the VNS. He
started showing seizure activity at age 1. At age 3 he visited the Mayo
Clinic and had a barrage of tests to eliminate various conditions that
can cause seizures. After the test results were in, they concluded he had LGS. We have an
excellent facility here in Ottawa County, Michigan called the Ottawa Area Center. Drew
attends the school 5 days a week. He operates at about a 2 year old mentality. He loves
people and his toys. Due to his drop seizers, Drew spends most of his time on the floor or
seated. When we go places we use a stroller for his safety. The best quality of life for him is
what we focus on. We have learned you must be the best advocate you can for your child.
As with all children, he is a gift who brings us much joy.
